How to Make Baked Sweet Potato Chips


Sweet potatoes are root vegetables and are very popular in the United States. These vegetables originate from Central America and have been cultivated since the 16th century. They are not only an excellent source of vitamin A but also of folic acid, riboflavin, and vitamins b6 and C.
These potatoes are eaten cooked or baked and have a sweet taste which makes them very versatile. By storing the raw potatoes in a cool, dark, and dry place they will last for a few weeks. Even after cooking, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Potatoes are used in a huge variety of both savory and sweet dishes and are normally flavored with honey, ginger, lime, coconut, or cinnamon. You can even use them in puddings, custards, baked desserts, and bread.
These baked potatoes are normally seasoned with cinnamon and sugar or honey or with salt and paprika.
Here is how to baked sweet potato chips (also called a yam) with a sour cream topping.
You Will Need:
* 6 Sweet potatoes of medium size
* 1/4 cup sour cream
* 2 tablespoons of softened margarine or butter
* 30ml milk
* 30ml brown sugar
* Pinch of salt
* Bowl for mashing
Instructions Step by Step
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Using a fork, pierce the sweet potatoes to allow the steam to escape.
Step 3: Place the sweet potatoes in an oven dish and bake tender (should take about 45 to 60 minutes).
Step 4: Take the baked sweet potatoes chips out of the oven and cut them lengthwise in half.
Step 5: Using a spoon, scoop out the insides of each half, and mash in a bowl.
Step 6: Add the milk and sour cream to the mashed sweet potato and mix well.
Step 7: Now add the margarine, salt and brown sugar and mix it all together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Step 8: Take the empty shells and line them up in a baking dish.
Step 9: Using a spoon, fill the shells with the mixture.
Step 10: Bake the sweet potatoes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown.
Hints and Tips:
* When you buy your potatoes make sure that they are firm to the touch and the skin has no soft spots in it.
* You can substitute fresh potatoes with frozen or canned potatoes if the recipe asks for cooked sweet potatoes. To substitute four medium sweet potatoes in a dish you can use about 8 canned potatoes because canned potatoes are normally smaller.
* You can freeze these potatoes or store them for up to 10 days in your refrigerator.
* To save time, bake a large batch of sweet potatoes and keep in the freezer or refrigerator.
* If your sweet potatoes are uncured, it is usually best to use them in dishes with fruits or sweeteners. Cured potatoes are generally sweeter.
